Trying to export .OBJ along with a .MTL(or something like it

Hi,

I'm new here. Please tell me if I'm completely missing what Octane does. I would like to take a .OBJ file I drew in CAD and apply color and texture to it and export a file or a couple of files that I can then bring into AfterEffects plugin Element 3D so I can create some video footage. I can do this via Blender by exporting a UV map, creating a .OBJ along with a .MTL that I can use in Element 3D. But I thought the UV maps generated by Octane would be higher quality.

Can I not do that here? I thought so since Octane is a plugin for many programs such as C4D. I thought being a Stand Alone, it would do this easily.

Or is this a program you place the object, apply color, texture, lighting, camera settings, etc. and you stay all within this program and render out a photo?

Thank you.

Regards,

Erik

Hi Erik,
Octane is a render engine only, so the .mtl file should be generated in the host modelling app. When Octane is used inside an application via plugin, it can use the options that the host application offers to it, but Octane is always a render engine ;)
Here is the link to the Rhino documentation where you should find how to export an .obj with .mtl file:
