Triangular Artifacts

I've been having this problem off and on as I've been learning Octane in Cinema 4D and I can't for the life of me figure out what's causing it or hot to fix it. I read in another forum that it could have something to do with scale and/or ray epsilon. The scale is accurate, and I've tried adjusting the ray epsilon, but it has no effect. It's not an issue with the phong tag or geometry as far as I can tell. The C4D renderer has no issues with it and I've even had objects render fine in Octane and then suddenly show this issue. It's happening in all the kernals.

Any ideas?

Try off some if you have displacement, bump and normal together.

Whoa. Ok, so turning off displacement fixed it. But, then how do I use displacement without this happening? I do have both displacement and bump, but turning off the bump and only having displacement still produced the artifacts.

Hi wafflelad,
Octane displacement needs correct UV mapping without overlapping, maybe this is your issue

Hmm. It could be on this one. This is a model I got from elsewhere. However, the last time I had this issue it seemed to be related to scale. If I create a sphere and a light, everything renders fine. If I make that sphere and light very large, then I start to get issues. Actually the light doesn't matter. Is this just part of the nature of Octane? Do I need to work at a smaller scale for very large things?

You need to increase ray epsilon in this case.
