Backplate Image

Hi,
I have tried to find an answer through the search function but without luck, so I am sorry to the mods if this requires a repeat answer.
Can I have a clear confirmation if there is a 'backplate image' feature in development or planned for the future?
Ultimately I would like the feature in Max but I guess this a core engine request first?
Many thanks!

In the stand alone, there is a backplate image button.

Really, which is separate from the HDRI lighting image?
Ok, that was new to me, so this would boil down to a 3ds Max request then?

Ya, I don't know how 3Dsmax does it but there is a backplate image that is separate from the HDRI in stand alone.

Thank you for the response kavorka, Max does not have the option so I will inquire in the Max section.

Maybe you find this interesting...
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=52842&p=265977#p265977
I really hope it gets implemented soon,
I am really wondering why there are not more people urging for this... so essential

Hi guys,
did you note that, from v3 Alpha 7, there is a new Visible Environment pin in the Render Target?
Quoting abstrax:
Added a new "visible environment" pin to the render target node. If specified this environment is used for reflections, refractions and all camera rays that leave the scene and the regular environment is used only for the direct light calculation.
Happy rendering,
ciao beppe

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your explanation, but this doesn't sound like a practical solution for using backplates, or the way that other packages implement it. Often, a backplate is a hires 2d image, a gradient or solid color. Therefore I'm not understanding why you would want to use that for reflections, etc. as it doesn't fill the environment, rather only the cameras field of view.
In Iray or Mentalray, they use an environment/background switcher. You put your image/texture/color in the background slot and that becomes your "backplate" which gets drawn in the scene where there are no objects, or where there are mattes. The environment node provides the lighting and reflections, where you put an HDRI sphere for example. This is a really useful and straightforward approach, but doesn't sound like what you have described.

Hi paulforgy,
my previous post was more related to the v-cube's answer, sorry.
Anyway, we have the background option in standalone and c4d from a long time, so I guess that is related with the host application instead of Octane itself.
Probabbly it's better if you ask in your plugin section about this because is not a general issue

Thanks in advance!
