GPU & CPU Render Possible?

Can't remember a post I saw a while back. Just as DAZ allow use of CPU & GPU to render, I don't see that feature in the Octane Plug-in. Is that something I missed or planned in future release? Thanks.

hi microdot,
octane is not hybrid, it renders purely on the GPU.
possibly there might have been some confusion about the term 'out-of-core'? the out-of-core feature in octane means only that octane can utilize the system ram to store textures that overflows from the vram at rendertime, but ultimately all the rendering happens in the GPU.

It was not a stupid question at all. I also do not think anyone is making fun of you or the question. People may just be hinting at some latest rumors.
The answer to the question changed during the last year. Not everyone may be familiar with the progress in this area or follow all the rumor threads spread across the forum.

Overview from GTC 2015 to rumors pre GTC 2016
At the CPU Technology conference in 2015 on slide 36 you can read that OpenCL, CPU and out of core geometry was indicated as an area of interest for possible development.

-> Source of the confusion may be that GTC announcements are not facts but rather a message of intent. Actual development focus may change during the course of the year if roadblocks are hit or other opportunities present themselves.

During the first OR 3 development builds it became clear that OpenCL, CPU support and out of core geometry have to be put on hold.

Based on the latest rumors it seems like Otoy has changed development focus on a different area:
-> Instead of focusing on OpenCL, CPU and out of core geometry a lot of time and energy seems to have been invested to
make CUDA work on many different plattforms .
gabrielefx wrote:for what I read on this forum and hundreds of announcements Octane will render on Playstation 4....
Otoy reverse-engineered Nvidia’s general purpose graphics processing unit (GPGPU) software, known as CUDA, to run on non-Nvidia hardware
That means a CUDA program written for the PC could run on a PlayStation 4 or an Apple iPad.
