Hi Guys,

I am new to using Octane and I have to say I think it is worth every penny that I spent on it. It is truly awesome 8-)

I have been working through the tutorials and watching you tube videos in order to speed up my time on what so far has been a fairly steep learning curve.

However, I am struggling with the eyes.

Basically, they look pretty good but the white areas are grey, not white.

I have attached an image of the problem. This is a G2F figure, UV mapped to take V4 textures.

Below that I have put all the settings that I believe are relevant to this issue.

Could anyone advise me on where I am going wrong and also if they see any other issue I have that they have a solution for related to the the eyes, please suggest away :D

Thanks guys

Eyes usually need the Kernel->Ray Epsilon very low - so try 0.00001. Does that help?

Hi Paul,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I've just tried that and it doesn't appear to have helped.

I have found that setting the specular value for the Iris and pupil to .01 allowed the true colours of the eyes etc to come through and looked alot better.

I also turned the gamma down from 2.2 to 1.75 which made the sclera alot whiter. Any more than that and it looked odd.

It's all kind of academic now as I have just purchased the redspec shaders and they have sorted the eyes out.

Below is the render I did with the mods underlined before using the redspec shaders.

Thanks for your help on this Paul and I am willing to stick with it if it helps others that haven't got the redspec shaders.

I did not do much with G2, but for the Generation 4 I usually go with:
cornea - specular, full reflection, ior = 1.37
pupil - specular, full reflection, ior = 1.4 - alternative: diffuse, black
iris - diffuse (brightness adjusted with gamma value), no bump (you don't see it anyway)
sclera - a SSS material like on the skin, glossy roughness=0, little bump
eye surface - useless, diffuse black, opacity=0

you can give the tear a water material, but I usually blend it out like the surface

environment and light positioning is crucial to get good eye reflections ;)
