Proper workflow for Random Color + Fracture Object

Is there a way to randomize items diffuse color in a fracture object using the Random Color node? I have the Random Color node working in regular mograph cloner with render as instances turned on. Any help is appreciated!

Here is some old sample scenes. I hope most of them are fine. Mograph colors and octane cannot work together on render instances.
