Mainboard which supports up to 8/10 GPUs

Hi,
sorry for posting this again!
Because my actuall installed board ASUS P8P67 3.1 only
recognizes 5 of 6 GPUs I need to upgrade the Mainboard.
(1 x Titan Z = (2 x6GB) + Amfeltec-Cluster 4x GTX 780 (6GB) 1000W PSU)
If possible I would like "not" to go for Dual Xeon
and keep my i72006K and my 32 Gig Ram
(its only my renderslave mashine)
Any recommendation?
Thanks much!
Mike

Hello Mike,
While waiting for demigod to talk to you, your first problem stems from that CPU. The i72006K only supports 16 PCIe lanes (
http://ark.intel.com/products/52213/Int ... o-3_80-GHz). Unfortunately your second problem follows closely in that the P67 chipset is now ancient in hardware terms (2011 - the year I was born).
My recommendation would be to upgrade to an X99 system if at all possible. Make sure to get a CPU that offers 40 lanes. You will not regret it. Alternatively, see if you could pick up an X79 board (again the PCIe lane count for the CPU is critical).
Hope it helps.
Best,
Seeker

Hi Seeker,
thanks for the info!
Ahh I see - CPU must also support more PCIe-lanes.
I always thought, that the CPU is not so important for GPU rendering
and therefore my "old" i72006K would be enought.
Sorry for that bother, I have no idear about those hardware components.
There are so many Mainboards and CPUs available and there is no explanation
(for me to understand) how many GPUs they will support ultimately and so again my question:
Could you please recommend a spezific board and CPU which fits to my needs (max. 8 GPUs)?
F.e. would this board be o.k.? ASUS P9X79-E WS
I atm have 1 Titan Z (=2x Titan 6GB) and would like to add 2 more 6GB Cards (like 780 or 980 6GB each)
inside the Case and on top I have my amfeltec cluster with 4 x 780 (6GB). So all in all 8 GPUs
Which CPU is the minimum I would need for this setup?
thanks
again
Mike

no one has 8 GPUs running and can tell me something about his hardwaresetup?
thanks

Hi,
not so many users has an 8x GPU system, anyway, posting in the Cinema 4D section with hw questions is not a good idea, better to post in the
Video Cards / GPUs and Drivers or even in the
Off Topic Forum sections

At this link you can find a long discussion with a lot of useful infos by the hw guru like Tom, Smicha and Tutor about multi GPU systems:

but this post got discussed here:
x12 GPU Setup RAM requirements?
So I thought mine too.
anyway
thanks

Yeah, but reading thrue forums might help as there are tons of information You can reach if You wish - that's the reason to have forum in the first place.
RAM for 12GPUs You need the same as for one..simply put it doesn't matter =)
as for mobo..it's another story..To run 7-8 GPUs You better look into x79, x99 mobos, better workstation oriented & if You got some spare money.. even server grade hardware.
If You have splitters the only thing to deal is that Your GPUs would be recognied by bios.. hard to recomend exact model as we do not know Your other needs, budget, etc.
