What is the magic with PCIe X16

Hello Guys,

I am sure most of you can answer me that question.
What is the problem on running cards external with PCIe riser cables / PCBs ( e.g. amfeltec PCIe 4s Splitter)

Is it, f you install the card on a X16 Slot full performance is used / delivered
and if you hook 4 cards on such a splitter the would operate with x4 performance?

what does that mean exactly? Is it important for Gaming? Or does render performance decrease?
is the card "slower" on rendering?

Or do only the Scenes load longer into vRam?

I don't think it even matters, check these benchmarks about PCIe:

Yes - it means longer geometry load, not rendering.
