Hello guys !
I'm currently running Octane for C4D using a 2010 series macpro with a single GTX 680, I was thinking of adding something like a GTX 980 ti on the second gpu slot but saddly the computer doesn't give enough juice to power a second card..
Would it be possible to power it using an external PSU ?

Thanks,
F.P.

Hi,
yes, one solution is to use an external PSU with the paper clip trick, here is a video from Corsair:

Another more elegant solution is to find a PSU that fits inside the optional DVD bay, but is not so easy to find them

Thanks for the quick answer !
Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly is the purpose of this paper clip trick besides checking that the psu is properly powering the devices ?
Would I be able to just simply connect the 6 and 8 pin connectors to a corsair psu ? I don't mind having an to switch the power on for the external psu before starting up the mac pro..

Thanks,
F.P.

The paper clip enables the PSU to startup without it being connected to a mother board.

Otherwise it will not turn on without it thinking it is connected. the clip tricks it into thinking it is. : > )
