How to orient lights?

I couldn't connect any transform nodes to the "rotation" attribute of the IES light. But even the plane without IES doesn't obey maya's transform. What's the correct approach?

I usually don't use the Light node. Try using a polyplane with a Diffuse material with Emission instead. It's way more controllable.

@ivankio:
Have you tried to set Geometry type to Movable proxy, then you can move the light around in the scene - also with IPR.
In my small Octane experience, IES only works with Sphere light sources and Y-down is the direction of the light source (bit of a pain to setup).

Thank you for the tip about Movable Proxy with sphere only for IES lights.
I knew Movable Proxy is used to update stuff on IPR and between frames while Global geometry needs the renderer to re-start. But it seems lights don't update even on re-start when on Global mode.
I do like to use emissive surfaces but sometimes those patterns from direct IES lights are needed.
