Hair Shader

Has anyone found a good hair shader with the Max version of Octane? We've had some success with a mix of diffuse and glossy shaders with a little SSS on the diffuse, but it's really slow due to the large amount of geometry and doesn't have a very realistic feel to it. At the moment we're rendering hair separately with a different engine, and then compositing the passes together, but that comes with it's own drawbacks and limitations. Just wondering if anyone has found a good solution or if there are any 3rd party developers who have made a shader or workaround for this as it keeps coming up in our work?
