Pls read http://poserphysics.blogspot.com.au/201 ... pport.html prior to posting support issues.

NOTE: For people who experience a DAZStudio crash after upgrading to Octane 3 - deleting C:\Users\[username]\OctaneRender\Data\OctaneRender_settings.oczdb may resolve the issue.

This is the recommended thread for downloading, and posting any questions, suggestions or support queries for OctaneRender for DAZ Studio - STABLE RELEASE.

DAZ Studio Version
DAZ Studio 4.8 or later on Window Vista, 7, 8 or 10 64bit

Nvidia Driver Version
Nvidia drivers 353.x or later

Network Rendering
For Network Rendering, you must use the Octane slave release 3.02.

If you have a support issue, pls provide the following information:
- Operating System (ie. Win XP, Vista, 7, 8)
- Amount of RAM
- Graphics Card(s) - model (ie. GTX 580, 3GB)
- Nvidia driver version
- DAZ Studio version
- OctaneRender for DAZ Studio version (ie. 2.24.2.1)

- The most important part of resolving a problem is me being able to re-produce that problem. So pls provide as much detail as possible in order for me to do this, and if the problem is specific to the scene, send me the scene.

I have refreshed the installer at the top of this thread with:

3.0.0.6
- Compiled with Octane 3.0.0
- Added Medium and Medium Radius to the Daylight and Texture Environment settings
- Added new Render Passes
- Removed "Ambient" and "Sample Environment" GI Modes from the Direct Light kernel
- Added Deep Image settings to the kernel settings
- Changed UVW Projection to Mesh UV Projection and changed Linear Projection to XYZ to UVW Projection in the NGE

* If your default rendertarget has Render Passes->Info After Beauty ticked, I suggest unticking it and re-saving your default rendertarget

KNOWN ISSUE: If you pause rendering, change an Octane setting, then continue rendering, the Viewport will freeze (and you will need to refresh the scene to restart the Viewport). This will hopefully be fixed by Otoy in the next release of the API.

As this is the first Octane 3 build of the DAZStudio plugin, exercise caution and keep backups of the 2.24.2 versions of your scenes.

Maybe, although I am not really sure how this would work. What would the VDB file be "attached" to?

It could be a primitive. An orb or a box for example.

This is not a particularly straightforward implementation. For example, where is the VDB filename stored? Presumably in the Parameters for the primitive, but if you have a lot of primitives in the scene, it will be very hard to track down which one has your VDB connected. There is an added complexity in how the material gets edited. At the moment a primitive/prop in DAZStudio has "materials", and these are processed by the plugin and Octane versions of these materials are created and attached to the material slots for the geometry. So there is a direct link between the DAZStudio geometry material names to the Octane material names. The VDB implementation would not be able to use this (because the material name of the primitive/prop would not match the material pin of the VDB file). So how would the VDB material be edited?

The above are the same problems facing the Poser plugin, although the Poser plugin already has a framework for replacing a prop with something else (like a VDB). But the material editing is still going to be a big issue.

So in summary, in the long-term it might be possible to import VDB files, in the short-medium term you will need to export to Octane Standalone to do this.

Awesome :)
Dumb question: If this is compiled with O3, how does this work with licensing?

Your Octane 2 license will work with the alpha versions of Octane 3 (and maybe beta versions - I'm not sure).

Yes, confirmed, the v2 licence will be active in all the alpha and beta stage. Only when the official v3 will be out, we will need to have a new licence, and alpha and beta versions will stop to work ;)

Thanks for the release Face_off. Rendering appears to be less resource intensive and everything is more responsive during rendering now. No longer need to dedicate GPUs for rendering like I use to.

Spot rendering or region rendering did not work for me though. It still renders the whole scene, however it reduces the samples like it is spot rendering.

Here are a few renders playing with volumetric fog
