Hey guys, this project was completed a while ago but now I can finally post it! Animation Link -
https://vimeo.com/147308631
This is my first time using Octane and I can easily say that it will become my go to choice for animations. Since we had a tight deadline and since it's my first time with Octane, there are a couple of hiccups here and there, but please let me know what you think. Any comments/critiques are more than welcome guys!
Also for those interested here's the full project on Behance -

Please note that the still images are done with vray, Octane was used for animation.
Thanks
Sava

Cool Animation, did you do the particles in After Effects or with Particular or Houdini?

Thanks! First off sorry for the delay, I'm new to the forum and I didn't get any notifications of the messages posted, by the way does anybody know how do I get an email notification for the messages? Ok so the most challenging thing was coming up with the concept, which also took the most work, but the client was very open and we were able to lock it in just a couple of days. Once we had the final storyboard the modeling part was easy since it was all mostly kit bashed together. Overcoming the initial technical hurdle was fairly easy with this great video which gave me some basic understanding of Octane optimization
https://vimeo.com/124066262 . I rendered the whole animation on a single gtx titan, average render time at 1280 by 720 was around 7 minutes with 2048 samples. The images were a bit noisy but since there were no fine detail textures, only clean surfaces, but I could easily remove the noise in post with neat video. It's a great workaround if you're pressed for time but you need to know the limitations and I would still prefer more time to render it properly. Hope this helps!
Cheers

Thanks! It's a mix of both 3d and post. For the main explosion the particles are done in 3ds max with pflow mixed with some videocopilot shockwaves footage. For the subsequent shots, the out of focus particles are also videcopilot footage, this is a free collection called flour fusion, it's a great way to add in some organic motion if you're pressed for time. Ideally these would all be done in 3d since octane is so good with depth of field, but again working with time limitations sometimes you just have to resort to quicker solutions. Thanks again for the question, hope this helps in some way!
Cheers!

Great video! Also I need to buy a case for my iPhone 6 Plus, if you could send me that one for free, I would be happy!

Thanks man! I think they're still raising the funds for the manufacturing of the case, here's the official website if you need more info -
