Daz Characters imported into C4D not showing in LV

Ive been playing around with the demo for C4D for the last 2 weeks and I do a lot of environment renders for commerical applications. I make business, healthcare and college student looking characters in Daz and import them into my C4D scenes. The problem Im having is the main character body or the Daz figures wont show up in Live Viewer, the clothes, hair, poses and everything else give me no issues. Is there a setting that I need to check/uncheck in order for the main body to show up? This is driving me crazy trying to figure it out.

If anyone could shed some light on this, Id appreciate it.

I don't know the resulting geometry after the import. But plugin can render anything if you set it correctly. Check attributes and textures of materials. And please always post some images from scenes to figure what you get. This makes easier to get some quick help. Thanks!

I import from Daz as both .fbx and .obj Depending on the poses sometimes .fbx deform the figure too much so Ill use obj files.

Ive rendered figures like this hundreds of times using the C4D render engine just fine. But once I convert or make new Octane materials, the figures doesnt show up at all. At first I thought it was a Dropbox issue and internet speed, not linking the files fast enough since we keep all our files on there, but the items Ive built in C4D render just fine.

I did these test scenes with no problems

But this one is giving me problems with the girl sitting on the couch. Ive converted C4D materials, Ive built Octane materials from scratch and linked all images, nothing seems to work with the actual characters body. Im thinking there is some sort of export option Im missing in Daz that is causing this...? Maybe someone who knows a little more about Daz Studio exporting could chime in.

Not need to know anything about DAZ export or import. Just let's check the exported scene. Can you correctly see objects in viewport? Or have you checked opacity/alpha channels? Some options of opacity/alpha which are not fully convertable by plugin. You need to manually tweak these.

Hi,
here is a Genesis 3 figure exported via FBX and opened with c4dOctane as an example:
Screen Shot 2015-11-24 at 12.19.40.png
the only little issue is that if you convert the materials, an inverted node is put on top of the image node with the correct opacity texture and ruins the opacity effect for eyelashes, hairs and so one. But just copy the image node and paste it over the inverted node (or connect ther opacity image node directly to the pin in the Node Graph editor).
Have you already tried to import the DAZ figure separately, correct all materials, and then paste it in the complete scene or use a xref for linking?

So I took a look at the material images that were loading and they were huge. Opened the ones that werent loading, they were up to 4000x4000 resolution. Scaled them down by 50% and they load now. Is there a limit on image size for mapping materials?

But... if I change cameras or use the Pick Focus and focus on her face her body disappears again. So I used the C4D Focus Distance, copied that and pasted it into the Octane Focal Distance, her body shows up again. But as the Live Viewer is loading, it restarts and her body is missing again. If I click anywhere or change any setting/material her body disappears. Totally perplexed as to why this is happening...

This is weird, I wonder what is your hw configuration.
If you right click in the live view and invoke the "toggle info" command, other info bars should appear on top of the bottom one, giving more infos about GPUs and especially VRAM usage.
There is no texture resolution limits, but all the scene must be loaded in the GPUs VRAM. You are probably running out of VRAM, I guess. Instead of reducing the resolution, you can activate the out-of-core option for moving the textures from VRAM to system RAM ;)

Yes most likely a VRAM issue. Also i'll advice to built up some scenes from scratch to learn the plugin and material behaviours.

I also noticed I was getting an error about Vray. Not sure if I downloaded a model that was used with Vray and a material may have been in the scene still, but I copied everything over to a new file and everything works fine now.

It also says

Out-of-core used/max: 469Mb/4Gb
Used/free/total vram: 129Mb/46Mb/1023Mb

Im counting down the days to get rid of this iMac. My new machine should be here in a week from Boxxtech. 2 Titan and 2 GTX 780s GPUs

Hi,
glad that you have sorted out ;)
As you can see, the iMac gives you only few MB of VRAM to play with (129+46=175MB only), unfortunately most of it is sucked by the big monitor :(
In the mean time, as a workaround, you can reduce the iMac resolution for getting a bit more VRAM ;)
