Still learning here, but I currently own a Macbook Pro 17" 2.53GHZ with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR3 memory
# Intel HD Graphics with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory. I ran the octane on it but is very slow, some times crashes. Looking to upgrade to desktop. Is there a Mac configuration that is recommended?

Thanks

Or I was thinking, having a PC built for my 3D apps.

Any configuration suggestions?

My advice,

Just build a Windows or Linux based machine. Its a really pain the butt how slow Apple is at adopting new video card generations. The best card you could possibly get it for your mac is a GTX 285, or Quadro FX 4800 (but I think that the GTX 285 is still faster. ) Either way you will pay out of the nose for those cards. If you are serious about using octane you are way better off going the custom computer route.

Plus its much less expensive ;)
