Memory - how much is really enough?

Hey all,

I'm interested in making stuff like the Semi-Pernament titles:

I know it's a vague question but do you think something like this at 1080p would be doable on 6GBs?

Memory is a big issue seeing as we're limited to the lowest spec card. Meaning anyone like myself who plans on building a new system needs to think really hard on how much memory we'd realistically utilise. The worst thing in the world would be to splash out on a set of cards only to realise we need more memory. Price is a big factor, considering that the price difference between a 6GB 980 GTX and a 12GB Titan X is considerable. On a budget, do you go 2 x 12GB for more memory or 4 x 6GB for more CUDA cores?

I haven't yet built my rig but I'd be interested from hearing from the community if you ever run into issues with the amount of RAM you have or if you'd rather have more cores.

6GB should be more than enough for nearly any Project. I have never had a cinema file that exceeded 6GB and if so you could optimize it by splitting it.
As you can tell from the Breakdown, Raoul Marx used a 780 ti and a 680 with only 2-4GB of vram to pull of the semi permanent titles on his own.

So 4 is good 6 are better 12 are in my opinion unnecessary.
