360 Stereo Distance vs Scene scale

Hello,
I've got a 360 stereoscopic scene ready to render in octane for maya, set up at real world scale. The scene is set to meters and everything is at correct scale. However, the stereo distance on the camera is capped at 2. I've done some tests and the stereo distance is definitely in cm, not meters. This means that I can't emulate the correct distance between a pair of human eyes (6.35cm ish), without scaling everything in my scene down, which has major implications. Is this a bug / oversight or am i doing something wrong?
Cheers
