Gradient interpolation behaviour

I've come to notice that Octane's gradient is behaving strangely. In this example I'm driving it by a falloff set to an index value of one (so thats a linear falloff).
I'd like to remap those values now using a gradient. When I use a linear gradient with only two points everything is fine.
However as soon as I start adding points (also linearly: 10% value at pos 10%, 20% value at pos 20% and so on), the gradient interpolates just something... whichapparently isn't linear.
So my question is: what kind of interpolation does Octane's gradient use? is there a way to set it to behave linear even when using more than two points?
(I've already tried to check / uncheck smoothing - even more weirdness.)
