Help with creating a transparent plastic material..

Hey guys,

This should be super obvious I'd have thought, but I was wrong.

I'm trying to make a transparent orange plastic like the kind you'd find on a prescription drug bottle, but it just isn't turning out right. I started with a Specular Octane material and brought the reflection down a bit, set the Index to 1.46 (which I found on a database), and I'm just not getting the results I'd like, it just seems way too dark. Maybe the walls are too thick and light isn't passing through?

Here's a rough pic:

Be sure you use Pathtracing in the kernel setting.
Also you can activate fake shadows under the specular material properties. (you need to check the box twice as seen in the screenshot.

Hope that helps. :)

Hey Yan,

That helped a lot, thank you. I was shying away from using Direct Lighting because I'd heard it takes a whole lot longer, but when I cranked down the sax samples it still looked really nice and didn't take too long to render.

Hey,
Might be worth experimenting with adding colour to the transmission channel also. It's very sensative, but between transmission and your reflection colour, hopefully you'll get a good material.
Also, once you're set to pathtracing, setting the GIclamp to 1 can be helpful.
