Trouble with Revit import

I have a large project with a pressing deadline, and the file is giving me fits. I got a separate FBX for each structure, exported by the architect from Revit. I've stripped it down to nothing, deleting tons of furniture, fixtures, doors, etc. At this point it actually looks pretty clean, and it's easy to navigate in MAX. When I open the render preview though, it is super sluggish.

I've made all geometry octane movable proxy. I've set it all to a generic diffuse material. I've tried clay mode.

Any ideas?

Scott,

We've hit this same problem with Revit files.

We had to bite the bullet and rebuild the geo in max. =(

Some FBX works. Some don't. It's extremely frustrating as I'm sure you know!

Wish I had an actual solution for you man. Sorry.

best,
O

Yeah. Revit is a mess. Always hate to deal with them. Thanks.

There is an Octane plugin for Revit which will allow you to render in Octane from inside Revit. That handles all the geometry anf material loading from Revit to Octane.

I don't have Revit. And barring an act of God, that shall not change. ;)

Going from Revit to 3ds max via FBX will be too much trouble. You should export from Revit as OBJ with a separate plugin (google for it).

Ah yes, I concur. We have had much more success with OBJ import over FBX.

Will look into the plugin.

Thanks Paul!

Trouble is I was sent FBX. I don't have access to Revit to export it myself. Trouble I've had with OBJ (from Rhino to MAX at least) is that I lost layer names and material names. (Can't remember if it kept object names....) If I'm going to use a client's model, I need to have something to grab onto. Otherwise I'm better off modeling it myself.

I'm curious about the plugin too...

Autodesk have an FBX to OBJ file converter that you could try. It will still loose all your materials, but might provide the geometry in a better state. http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc ... d=22694909

Export to DWG from Revit works fine imo.
