Live DB crash

Hello

My C4D keeps crashing when I'm downloading a material in the LiveDB

i7-3770K @ 3.50GHZ - Quadro K2200 - 16GB RAM - Windows 7 (I tried with my old GTX670, the same problem occurs)
Cinema 4D R16.050
Octane Render 2.24 (standalone)
Octane 2.24.0 R1 (c4d plugin)
same problem with Octane 2.23.2 R6 (c4d plugin)

When i try to download a material from the LiveDB, it gets stuck on "Downloading the material.... ID:XXX left:1"
If i click on the C4D interface, it works fine, I can do things. If I click on the close button of the LiveDB window everything crashes, and I can't close Cinema4D in a normal way, I have to open the task manager and force quit (so I don't get any error window, and I don't get any bugreport.txt from c4d)

This "downloading the material.." message can last forever, on some materials it gets stuck for 20-30 seconds, then the material appears in C4D (so I guess it's downloading..), on others it just stays on this message forever, so I have to make it crash by closing the LiveDB window.

If I drag and drop onto an object instead of clicking "Download" it starts crashing too
If I close the Octane Dialog / Octane Viewer window, or pause the live rendering, then close the LiveDB, it crashes too

All this happens with a blank scene, with a scene made of a few objects, or with a scene of many objects.

Then I try in the Octane Standalone, I download a material, and it takes about 2 minutes and a half to download a 10mb material (meanwhile I can download a file at 5mb/s on any site or torrent)
Then I decide to click on CANCEL on all the download boxes at the bottom of my standalone Octane Render, and the soft gets stuck for 30 seconds (downloads are stuck, if I try to open File -> Preferences, for instance, nothing happens). Then all of a sudden everything appears in my render window) and everything works fine.

So yeah. Looks like it crashes while downloading materials... and there's no feedback on how many % of the material has been downloaded, and no way to abort the download, so it's very frustrating.

:(

Thanks

yes it's slow for downloads. But there's nothing to be a bug. in plugin we don't have indicator option to display progress. Also of course will crash without function return. Also do you know that if you download once time it will be cached and you will get it immediately on second time?

So I've been counting and waiting while it is downlading, it took 2 minutes and 10 seconds for one material (Dirty Wooden Floor)
2 minutes and 10 seconds waiting for the material to appear with a touchy Cinema4D. That means if I didn't want that material.. I have to wait 2 more minutes to try a different one, and if I dare touching the LiveDB it crashes everything... So I don't know if I can call this a bug, that's right, but it's just impossible to work with
If if wanted to have about.. a hundred materials to be cached, I'd have to do that a hundred times, wait 200 minutes, 3.33333333 hours.
This is a bit crazy

Bug is things which are working wrong as we promised or announced. Unavailable functionality is not bug. I hope that you understand why i'm sensitive against this term. I don't wish that people think this is bugful software. New people is not aware that's a result of how much big and hard development process. Nevermind take a look to your topic.

I tried this materials and took about around 10-15 sec to download. Also not all materials takes so much as this. It depend to size. I think there is a speed problem on your connection to Otoy servers. Also about crashing issue, it's normal if you force to close without function return. You should wait until completed. I'm agree with you about cancel functionality and progress bar. But we don't have this option on SDK. I should do a wish for this from Otoy's devs.

Okay. I'm just disappointed because I wasn't expecting this and this is not a fun process to do.

- You must have been asked this in the past I guess, but : what about enabling a folder somewhere on the internet (even a dropbox folder or google drive thing) with all the textures to download ? With a "Download folder" option when you get started, and a "download file" option when you see that new textures came up
- I'm starting a download-marathon in the standalone version to cache all the textures, if I make a backup of the cache folder with all the textures downloaded, then erase the cache, and paste the backup I made in there, is it gonna work ?

Thank you

every material is consist from one file. Textures are embedded to this. Yes it should work if you copy all files to other pc or so.

Thank you for your answers Aoktar
Sorry if I sounded harsh I just bought the software and I thought it was going to be a nightmare to use

(I've spent some time today downloading all the textures on the standalone and it's okay I've got them all cached and backed-up now)

Besides I've been working with your C4D plugin today in various situations, and it works very well
I've had occasionnal crashes when other applications are opened but I've already had that problem without Octane. Closing other applications resolve those crashes.

Good luck in the development and thank you for your work

Yay. Np. I'm familiar and understand. But you talk about issues which are not directly related with plugin. So makes me sad and of course that's not your matter. But i can't fix without help of Octane team.
Also crashes which you say propably not crashes, if you don't see the C4D's completely crash.
