So there is now support for Samsung gear VR. Is there any plans for adding support for DK2 anytime soon? I really need to develop a demo for the DK2, is there a way of doing a vr movie with the current Octane 2.2 ?

It has been said many times, the DK2 is an obsolete prototype, therefore it will not be supported.
But the upcoming CV1 will, so next year you will have full support for Gear VR, CV1 and HTC Vive.

This is exactly correct.

In what consists the "support" for Oculus VR?
Is it the ugly ORBX player? That only reproduces the not so good panocubes?

Can you elaborate on what you think it's "not so good" about it?

Well it is not at least one bit customizable, you have a red background with floating cubes and a Otoy splashscreen, and mainly because you can use only the panocube format, which is not that good as they say.
And that's it... not really usable to show stuff to our clients...

I would even consider buying a samsung Gear VR along with a Samsung phone that i don“t need if i can render animations and display an impressive result. I have searched the forums and it seems you can render a limited FOV animation at least and convert it to .mov? IS it worth the hassle? Is it possible to render full 360 animations for other VR players? If so any instructions on how to?
Its also mentioned a few weeks ago that full support of 360 pano animations will be coming soon. How close are we to that release? I have a concept idea that i really need to develop a working demo for so would be great to know if a workable solution is coming very soon.

Why is it not good? What do you want it to do?
If I understood correctly, the upcoming ORBX Player v2 for GearVR will support full stereo pano animation, but there aren't many details on how to create those, hopefully the new player will come with samples...
