Multiple instances of C4D... sweet!

Didn't know this was possible. Now I can be rendering one project and working on another. Nice! Couple of questions though...

Should I configure Octane in any special way? I have 4 GTX 970s, should I allocate two of them in one instance and the other two cards in the other instance? Anything else to be aware of?

I read on the forums here about speeding up a render by assigning different frames of the same project to render on each instance. Something about export times being reduced? Not sure I get it but sounds great. Anything to be aware of? Same sort of restrictions as team rendering I suppose.

Thanks for any tips.

I did some tests since i׳ve discovered it this week, I׳m rendering for more then 50 hours now with 6 instances of c4d rendering 6 different shots. Works great! very stable.

On Windows, you rightclick the shortcut icon, choose properties and in the Target panel you add a -parallel.

It then should look like
"C:\Cinema4D R16\CINEMA 4D 64 bit.exe" -parallel

With R21 they changed it because of internal reasons. To be working with multiple C4D instances in R21 you need to copy and paste your original R21 installation folder and then just run that .exe that is in there.

Weird and totally less production optimal but hey, it is what it is.
