For now this is the only footage I could found...

I'm really trying to get my head aroud this Lightfields. These movies above - are glasses required? Or have someone filmed a screen? Then what is the usage?Rikk The Gaijin wrote:For now this is the only footage I could found...![]()
The first two are recorded from the inside the HTC Vive. The last one is from a tablet, no glasses required. The point of the LightField is that you can MOVE in the virtual space (for now in a limited area) rather that just look around from a single point. And it can be done not only for rendered images, but also for real environments, captured with a specially built rig of cameras, and soon it will also support video.martincarlson wrote:Rikk The Gaijin wrote:For now this is the only footage I could found...![]()

It really needs to be experienced to fully understand the potential of it, no words can clearly describe it. I still haven't tried it myself, but since I have tried many other VR experience in real-time, where you can move freely into a VR environment, I understand how cool this will be.martincarlson wrote:Aha!
Thanks.
I think a good way to describe a lightfield in my opinion would be a window.Rikk The Gaijin wrote:It really needs to be experienced to fully understand the potential of it, no words can clearly describe it. Soooo, can we get some LightField sample to play with?OTOY is putting the power of holographic light field rendering in the hands of content creators around the world, allowing them to produce photorealistic, navigable VR and AR experiences based on CG content, real-world scans, or a combination of the two.
