Hi
Just for fun who does animation with octane
This is the graph I found where they said after 1 minute of rendering GPU noise goes away very slow so 2 minute of rendering will looks as good as 5 minutes of rendering

In that article the author compares CPU and GPU rendering with VRay.

This is the usual exponential decay curve expected. It is often the case that a few paths in a scene must be sampled much more than others (caustics, medium scatter, multiple refraction). Multiple importance sampling alleviates this issue to some extent, but theoretically the quantity of noise will tend towards zero.

While the two images may look the same at 1 minute and 5 minutes, it's likely that more subtle complex paths are more accurately evaluated.

Please also be aware of the following comment from the authors of that article (taken from the same article):
Note: ...we have noticed that the image quality calculator utility is not as reliable on certain scene files. Users are encouraged to experiment on their own with the image analysis techniques discussed in this article.

Hopefully DOF highlights will be fast one day. Or at least option to blur them out like Caustic blur.

We will look into this in the coming months. We just didn't have time for it yet, but I think, DOF sampling can be significantly improved.
