I made a huge mistake and purchased Octane without considering the memory limitations of my GPU. I simply cannot render the project I purchased Octane for.
Does Otoy provide refunds in these cases?

as far as I know, no, OTOY wasn't providing any refunds..(However You can write to them & ask in Your case).

P.S. what is Your project? What is GPU? do You know 'bout (A) out of core textures, (B) Octane Render Cloud?

I have an Nvidia Quadro 4000. 2Gig Ram.
I'm using a lot of individual assets and a lot of textures. I've worked very hard to keep my system requirements as low as possible but 3ds Max is hitting 22-25 Ram when I render in Vray, which isn't bad but seems to be impossible to render with Octane and a 2 gig card. Am right in assuming I would need a the equivalent amount of RAM on a GPU(s) to render my scene with Octane?

Nope, not at all. Octane is very efficient handling the scene data. How many individual polygons do you have in your scene? ... the textures can be stored in the CPU RAM using the out-of-core feature, and instancing is also very efficient in Octane.

You should make some tests to know the limitations of your available GPU RAM. Also remember that if you are using your GPU also for display, some memory is used by the system and the host applications.

Can't you use the Out Of Core memory option if your VRam is not enough?

If you have it, surely you can tell it will handle it or not? Or do you not have the scene finished yet.

Consider using Phantom Scatter to be able to instance objects around...saves tons of memory.

There are a lot of solutions to solve the memory problem.
However, the quadro series has horrible performance in Octane when compared to the much cheaper GTX series. After doing all of the memory optimizations, you probably wouldn't be impressed with the performance.

For comparison, your card scores a 21 on Octane Bench. The GTX 980ti scores a 125.
