HDR Blur - Simulated Depth of Field?

I am hoping this has fairly simple answer, but I am not a where of how to do this in-program (standalone).
Is it possible to blur an HDR used as a background that is providing light to a scene, using a node parameter in the standalone itself, without doing it post work or by blurring the image prior to import.

I blur HDR panos all the time and find this an Interesting request. If it could be done in program it would save us from having to create another image from our standard HDR's. That said, rarely do I get the effect I want by just a general blur and often find myself painting in softer areas to the pano (in 32 bit mode) or even adding in blobs of different gradations or color.

I really enjoy post work on an image, I think it allows all the 2D creativity to interface with the 3D project realm. I love that. And I agree a simple blur may not actually give the optimal effect for an image. It would just be highly useful to have this in the video creation setting where you were creating an animation and you were looking to do this for any number of frames as part of that animation, all in house. Hopefully it is a possibility, and that would be really awesome to have all the other post image processing options you are describing as well for an HDR
