Emission Alpha card

Hi guys, I'm having a problem with creating emission light cards with alpha (The engine flares). The edges seem to be gray for some reason, does anyone know how to make it totally transparent?

It seems to only happen on the backsides of polygons, is there a way to make an emission doublesided? I've tried duplicating the geo and flipping normals but I get overlapping errors in the render.

It's a long-shot - but try adjusting (reducing) the Kernel->Ray Epsilon to ensure you are not getting self shadowing on the alpha map.
