Render Passes + Render Times

Is there any information available on how render passes might affect render times? Is Octane breaking up the render or are the passes rendered separately? It's interesting watching the info passes turn green before the beauty passes

Hi,

All the beauty passes are rendered in "parallel" with the main pass. The info passes are rendered separate from the beauty passes. Enabling more render passes is a bit slower than a single render. On top of that, when an info pass is rendered on a GPU, that GPU can't do any beauty passes. In general, render times will go up a bit but I don't have exact metrics for this.

cheers,
Thomas

Info passes are slow like hell . ;)

2 x GTX 780Ti
9M triangles scene
1024x1024 resolution
1024spx - main and info passes
time:
main = 3m 27s = 100%
main + Z-depth = 3min 53s = 112%
main + AO = 4m 17s = 124%
main + Z-depth + AO = 4m 42s = 136%
main + Pos + Z-depth + MatID + UV + ObjID + MV = 6m 14s = 181%
main + Pos + Z-depth + MatID + UV + ObjID + MV + AO = 6m 49s = 198%

And this is just commonly used passes :)
So as you can see Octane is "Ultra fast" in so called "Info passes".

Some positive side :
Beauty passes and Lighting passes will add just 2% to your render time ;)

I wouldn't say its slow as hell. Think about how many extra renders are happening. I did some tests yesterday and dropped the exr into Photoshop and After Effects using ProEXR and it was like all of my compositing dreams coming true. Can't say enough good things about Octane so far.
