Foldable table / product design project

Challenge: needed to design 4 tables that could be used for classroms, events, architectural, gallery - something modular, foldable, easy to move around, and big enough to sit 3 people

- after looking around for ready made solutions, went with this custom version, teamed up welders to make this simple, yet effective metal construction, the desktop is secure under it's own weight, and is light enough to be carried around and assembled by one person, and as easy as possible to transport

- so octane gave a pretty good simulation on how it's gonna work out

- renders and photos below and rest here: http://on.be.net/1HTOGwA

- simple, yet pretty challenging getting a project like this together, actually takes some sweat and piss to put together and break a few nerves while battling people

hi,
I always love yours "from Octane to real life projects", thanks for sharing :)
what are the real dimensions of the table?

oh thanks man.. and yeah that's the point, actually making stuff - it's nice to make realistic renders and stuff and even better when you get to actually see it in use - and you get to realise some new features when you use the product, just want to do a lot more of real world projects
- always try and start with a 3d model just to simulate how it would work out, and have something to use as technical paper

- dimensions:
- 210 x 69 cm, 75cm height
- the desktop panel is 1,8cm thick fiberboard

- went with the cheapest materials (another challenge build good stuff cheaply and with minimalist design)

- first the screws were holding the desktop fiberboard to the construction, which fell out during transport because there weren't enough screws to compensate the weight of the construction and poor handling, so I just figured I put those smaller planks underneath the table to hold the panels in place under it's own weight, which works out great, already used and transported them a few times and figured I can assemble load and transport all of them on my own, since the weight and dimension is just enough
