Modo901 OctaneRender Layout Feedback Request

Hi

The Modo901 version of the Octane plugin contains a new layout which includes the Octane viewport. A number of people have made suggestions for additional panels/tabs etc to be added to that layout, and toolbars to be moved. I do not use Modo for artistic/modelling purposes, so I am not the right person to decide what should be in the OctaneRender Layout. So I am seeking feedback from users on what changes should be made from it.

I only want to re-design the OctaneRender layout once. So I need a clear, definitive, agreed, specification from users on what you would like the layout to be. It needs to work for for both lo-res and hi-res monitors. If someone sends me an exported Layout which I can cut and paste into the layout, that will reduce the potential for errors.

Over to you...

Thanks

Paul

Paul, as you know, I've been experimenting with my own layout (and you've added a couple of my suggestions into your own layout)

I started with modo 901s render layout and tweaked from there. The way I work in the render layout is very similar to the work I need to do in octane.

The main changes I have made in my own layout are:
1. Added an extra camera (3d view) to the right of the octane viewport (with some scripting to switch the 3d view to a modo preview)
2. Added a redesigned octane toolbar to the top, with some scripting for stuff I want quick access to, which normally require more clicks (eg. preferences, changing render passes, changing render priority, clay mode etc)
3. Added render stats to the middle (with some scripting to toggle on/off)
4. Added redesigned node/materials toolbar into the bottom schematic (groups node tools into a single popup since I use this less)
5. Added the octane node properties into the right of the schematic (not totally happy with this, but there are problems with adding this stuff into modo's properties on the far right)
6. Kernel/camera/env/passes forms are in popovers split into subtabs (you ended up doing something similar in your latest layouts)
7. I also put the Kernel/camera/env/passes forms into the right column properties where the other modo render properties are (although I tend not to use it much, opting to use the buttons/popovers instead)

I'm not completely happy with it and continue to tweak things all the time, but in general, it's working pretty well for *me*.

I'm not here claiming you should do any of this, I just wanted to get the conversation started :)

Paul,

I do like having a basic Octane layout that can be customize easily. Funk's customize layouts looks similar to the Modo render layout. Adding separate shader list next to schematic editor is quite useful and is something I have done already.

Hi Paul,

It's my first time using Octane plugin. Would it be possible to add a modo's physical sun light control in the environment tap?
Occasionally I try to match the day light with HDR image's sunlight direction, but sometimes it's bit a pain to open between the environment tap to rotate the image and light properties on shade tree. If that is possible, it would be super convenience.
Also in default layout setup, render schematic tap is already opened but when I choose different override material, additional schematic tap is show up. Is there any option for disable additional popup?
Otherwise, thank you for awesome plugin.

Hi - if you use Octane Daylight lighting, the Octane sun direction should be sync'd to the directional light specified in the Environment Material Sun Light. Does that answer your questions - or have I misunderstood what you were asking?

You can disable this behavior in the Preferences->Octane panel.
