Using Octane to add lens effects to footage

Hi all, I just recently started using Octane near the end of my last production. But I found it to be really intuitive and powerful… so now I’m hooked :)

For an upcoming project, I wanted to try and use Octane to add a lens/“scope” effect to some footage, rather than relying on custom plugins and comp tricks. Here’s my finished test/proof of concept, using an image I found here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File: ... t_Hill.jpg

It took a bit of tweaking to find a lens combo that would allow the DoF to focus through to the projected plate, but I settled on a concave lens right in front of the camera, and a convex lens in front of that. (See below. Dotted ring indicates camera focus distance.)

I know it’s pretty basic compared to some of the amazing works here… I can’t wait to keep learning more from all you talented folk. Thanks for looking!

Thanks for the kind words, all! After the project's finished, I'll update with the actual shots that were used 8-)
