This is my first ever attempt to play with #VR content. If not OTOY & Octane Render I would not have a thought about getting into that, Thanks!

Already started a WIP thread making a scene specifically for this contest (http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=46200), but thought it's not the best idea to put too much time into making something unique & then upload without even testing (I left this for 2nd round)..

So for this first round, I ended up converting simple lighting-test/3d-sketch. The process itself was not so complicated: setup a scene, place a camera, choose some parameters. Much more goes into finding that right place for observation (much harder than it looks)..

Being a fan of minimalism I see the beauty in just the right amount things around & that's what this work was all about. Been curious to see this space in #VR (fingers crossed I get to experience that in few days).

Most of furniture is based-on/inspired by Thonet's products. Also there's a pair of B&O speakers & Sony's Ultra Short Throw Projector by the wall in between. Kitchen table is called Kami. Space itself is "cleaned-out/redesigned" familly owned property - been thinking for a while how to convert it into something filled with warm light.

Thanks for watching!

Uploaded cleaner version (as WIP), just in case noise would be an issue.

As scene is too clean, not so much texture work hapenning + low quality models, noise might not be an issue, rather opposite, but maybe there's some side effect that I could not get to evaluate so far.

Anyway, this first try will serve as a base point trying to polish this entry a bit (remodeling furniture, adding details, pushing textures, etc. Love the light, but the rest requires some additional work =)

Glad to see your entry Glimpse. I've been too busy to wrap up mine unfortunately. Next round for sure though!

One thing I think you should consider based on this first entry: Pay attention to your placement of the camera. I feel like I'm 4 feet tall. When I look at those chairs and table, then look at the hall way and other furniture objects behind me, they feel oversized, like I'm in a fun-house or something. Unless you're going for a short person (or child)'s perspective, I would suggest bringing the camera up in height a little more.

Looking forward to your second round entry!

Hi

Have to agree with You regarding to camera position. Normally I use ~ 160 to 180, but not in this case. The reason being is that flat surfaces like table top would look too big + chairs would be deformed even more. Horizontal position was dectated also with by in mind - as written in the post, camera placement was the hardest decision, especially in small space like this. Framing + vanishing point gives a lot to how we understand the space (probably second most important thing, after lighting) + it's something I should improve or at least learn to use better in my advantage..especialy in VR. Point taken!

Thanks, Guys!

Far from being something that I like in terms of details - so I'll jump on it and start polishing! As I know what it's like to experience this scene in VR, I can start putting details (though texturing, modeling, arranging objects).. - got immensly more motivated to tweak this one out to perfection (as original idea was just to push myself to submit, so I would know whole process inside Octane Render for my other entry =)

Fun times ahead! =) I have no doubt #VR is going to lift of once more & more will try that! Wasn't expecting the effect to be so good, considering the fact I totally dislike 3D movies - because of sicness, lack of colors etc. - this media with new devices are changind a lot. Got even more curious' bout new Oculus device now!
