hi Guys,

I could use some help with achieving a good sss skin octane shader in Maya for character skin ~ for some reason, all the ones I have tried from other threads don't seem to work.

If anyone has created a good skin shader for the Maya plugin, kindly share it with us.

here are some examples of the quality of SSS I am trying to achieve

Hi There,

Most of the option for the medium (Scattering for Octane) is about the scale option right, like vray arnold or what ever render engine. so for you to achieve a nice you can use a Diffuse or specular material to get the medium values and them use a mix shader to blend with a glossy material to have some reflection. but keep on mind the energy conservation of the material.

Most of the shaders available try to play with scale (unit) at render setting and at the medium node scale option. so like the manual says add 1 in scattering or add a texture and then change the absorption if you want less effect pretty easy to achieve this or better results.

Sure a nice texturing also help the lookup. But again make sure your scale is right. to scatter the right amount of light on the object size.

hope this will help with, I won't send a maya file because you will have the same problem if you don't check your scale. :D

Cheers
Jo
