Rendering Hair Particles vs Mesh Hair and Instances

Dear all, :P

Would you recommend I use Blender hair particles to add onto a WIP model in development, or should I create hair using scuplting? This is based on the issue that I have whereby I am worried about memory size limations associated with loading scenes into the gtx480 setup I have...
Would hair take up a significant amount of memory?

Also, when do you think we'll be able to see some geometrical instancing in Octane?

many thanks in advance,
Squigs

Hey,

I guess it depends on your model complexity and the amount of strands,
a GTX480 has 1,5GB memory, that should allow you to render a model with 5 million polies (depending on textures).

Maybe experiment until you find a look that's fitting.

Thanks Radiance for the response :P . When do you think we could see some geometrical instancing in Octane?

It's planned to be implemented in the upcoming releases, i can't say exactly when.
It's quite easy to add by itself, but it requires a different geometry format than OBJ.

Thx because i feel that instances would make my VRAM memory much less of a cumbersome pain :P Please make instances a.s.a.p :P

many thanks,
