beauty passes not adding up in photoshop

When I render out the beauty passes and composite them in Photoshop, I cannot get them to match the original render output.
I'm putting the direct diffuse layer on the bottom in "normal" blending mode, with the other layers on top in "linear dodge" blending mode. The result is way brighter and more exposed than it should be.
I have the tone mapping response set to linear and I've even tried turning off tone mapping. It doesn't help. I've also tried changing the gamma correction settings and turning off gamma correction entirely. Still doesn't help.
I don't know if this has to do with color profiles or what. Any suggestions?
