At work I am currently using an ATI X1900XT video card running on a quad Core MacPro.
At home I am currently using a GeForceĀ® 310 512M GDDR3. on a Dell Studio XPS 9000 with an i7-920 CPU

To make best use of Octane, what video card(s) should I buy or upgrade to:

1. For the MacPro
2. For the

Thanks for your advice.

For the Macpro a GTX 285 for mac is really good
But check if your Macpro support it (wich model of macpro it is ? 2008 ? 2009 ?)

At home a GTX 260 with either 896mb or 1792mb (depends on your need)
Or any other GTX like the 280 or 285 with enough ram

The MacPro is Intel based vintage 2008.

I create and work with a lot of high poly models in SketchUp. I currently use Twilight as my primary rendering software both at work and at home.

Price is not particularly a problem (but at home I'm most comfortable with the $200-$500 range): it's results I'm looking for.

Everything I read about video cards is oriented to game playing, that's why I'm so interested in hearing from this forum to get the 3D Modeling user's advice.

The GeForce GTX 285 for Mac requires osx 10.5.7 or greater
At home you could buy the same card for PC, so you get the exact same speed

The GeForce GTX 285 is 1024mb so its a lot for modelling ;)

I'm sorry, I wasn't specific enough: I do have OSX 10.5.7 both at work and at home on a 27" Intel iMac (2008 version)

Thank you very much, Sam, for your advice. So you chose the GTX 285 instead of the GTX 260 so I would have the same at home and at work?

Yeah
But you can go with 285 at work and 260 at home
I found just good to have the same speed in the two place ;)

Don't use another one then the GTX 285 Mac edition. There's no other ( GTX 260) for Mac.
You can find a reseller at Nvidia, also from Apple http://store.apple.com/us/product/TW387 ... NjcxMjczOQ

Same here, there's no stock anymore (still very little ammount of GTX260)

That's because Nvidia gonna unveil the next series soon... I hope

As burkhard said don't try to buy a GTX260 for mac ;)

A Palit 2gb gtx 285. I use that for rendering with octane... its only a bit more than the 1gb version. And I think apart from the special edition ASUS mars (4gb) probably the best card for rendering at the high end.
