Help files and/or Documentation?

The help links for this plugin do not work. They open a browser window and direct to a dead link.

I have also been unable to find any documentation on this plugin.

My inquiries on this message board have generated insufficient response.

The user made tutorials are very limited and basically just brush over the UI.

This trial and error process is not productive.

What do you recommend?

Can I get my money back?

I second this request. The lack of documentation and the often unresponsive message board makes using this plugin difficult at times.

I have a small list of things I'd like to know how to use: Octane render layers, the motion blur render pass, batch rendering with folder flags for the Octane render passes, using Maya instances that work as whatever Octane uses as the equivalent for instances. There's more, but that's what I'd like to know and could think of off the top of my head.

Documentation shouldn't be an extra special bonus feature of software, it should be a part of any software that costs money!

Thanks for the reply Glimpse! Btw, your site is looking good these days. ;)

I made this post and never heard anything or could find any info:

http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=45922

An understanding of the nodes in comparison to their Maya or Mental Ray counterparts would go a long way. And maybe some solutions to a few frequently encountered obstacles that are tackled differently with Octane nodes. I spent the last week testing them and have figured out some things by trial and error but it's not a very efficient way to get familiar. Using the C4D plugin was a little frustrating at times with the documentation being out of date and therefor misleading but having no documentation whatsoever is a different story. I sympathize that Octane is a newer renderer but it seems many of the complaints and misunderstandings of the capabilities could be mitigated easily by just providing some basic documentation.

i.e., How is the Octane light node any different from an emission texture on some geometry?

Also, everything zboog mentioned is on my 'To Learn' list.

i know it doesn't help your immediate need but the team has said they are rewriting all the documentation...but they haven't specified when they will be ready. hopefully soon!

That is good to know. Hopefully it will be available before the public rollout of Octane 3 next Fall (or later) OR they can add us to the earlier alpha release. (PLEASE IF YOU'RE LISTENING! :D Haha)

What is the problem with reading the existing documentation?

Perhaps you should check your firewall settings or browser. This link (http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Maya_2_0) has always been working, and it works at the time - I've just checked it:

There it is!! I have checked my firewall settings and I tried copying and pasting links. It would probably be helpful to many if this link were posted in the stickies with each version or on the purchase page or both.

Is it truly the case that there is no option to save render presets?

This link together with all other manuals links has always been in the "manuals" section of the Otoy site.
