HELP PLEASE

I just finished adding materials to my scene, but found out i made an error with the geometry...so i need to know if it is possible to change geometry without adding materials from the scratch...
I am aware that if you have materials in form of nodes, you just add new fixed mesh and relink these nodes to the adjacent materials on the mesh nodes...however i did not use material nodes, i added materials right to the meshnode with that material picking mode icon...so if i now delete this meshnode and add new one, the materials will be gone, right?
Sorry if this was already answered, but i do not have time right now to look for it and need to know it ASAP...
Thanks

Hi, do NOT delete the meshnode, just export from your 3d editor (3dsmax, maya, etc...) in new OBJ file the corrected mesh and use relink button. You'll have no problem with materials this way...

Hello,
I seem to be in the same boat and haven't managed to get this to work. I searched the user guide and didn't find reference to a "Relink" button. Where do I find this? Also, the Load New File icon for my meshnode doesn't seem to have any effect.
I have a scene in which I have moved a few objects and added a few. When I exported, I tried using the name of the existing project, in which I have all the materials the way I want them, but I get the following error:
Automation Error:
MeshNode for rendering "<filename>" not useable.
So, Instead I exported it as a new file and then attempted to load the materials from my other file.
The materials that I finalized are mostly what came over from Max with some tweaking (only one has anything wired to it).
On page 100 of the user guide it discusses using an icon at the bottom of each image or mesh node to reload that material from another file. I tried this by selecting the one large node in my scene and loading the file in which I have the materials the way I want them, but none of the materials in the scene updated.
Please excuse my novice questions. I'm relatively new to the product.
Thank you.

Okay, duh - I realized that the icon is for loading the mesh and not the materials.
The first time I tried it, Octane froze but it looks like it is working when I open a slightly different file with my materials (has a different camera angle) and then load the updated meshnode (which has the same camera angle -- not that that has anything to do with it).
On another note, sometimes when I load a file, the panels have all been squeezed against the edge of the screen by the render view. I have to pull them out again. A minor annoyance, but something to add to the to do list. Also, being able to save one's default screen layout would be nice.
