It's time to change ? Titan GTX 690 vs. Titan X

Hi everyone

I have a doubt about a possible change in my Rig that I use with Octane, actually I have 3 NVidia GTX 690 and I would like to know if could made some drastic change in performance to move to the new Titan X (or 3 of them?) I see in comparison the new one has less CUDA cores than my 690, but in other hand the Titan X has 12 GB of memory. I don't know if I looking for the correct specs to made a change, and I hope my question is not to silly, but thanks in advance for your opinions.

In addition to having 6x more memory per GPU, in Octane, a Titan X (air cooled) is faster than a 690 by about 1.25 times - see OctaneBench chart here: http://render.otoy.com/octanebench/results.php . Instead of making moves, why not make additions?

MMM I didn't think that before, I believe the problem should be with the space to do that, I believe I could add just one Titan X "I don't know if my motherboard could handle more than that.
But in that case, what memory should prevail - 690 memory or Titan X - ?

if You render on all cards at the same time scene limit would be 1.5 GB..
when You deactivate 590s that would be lifted to full 12GB =)

Glimpse,

How does out-of-core affect that?

I'm not sure 'bout of the core with different cards =) but overall heard this feature doesn't bring too much of a slowdown, but I guess everything depends on the size of Your textures..if You have 1.5GB card & then 15GB of textures I doubt the hit will be only 10-15% =DDD

So, the thougth is correct of not needing the TitanX for the 12gb? Coz' of the outercore feature.
Not looking at speed, does the TitanX has more advantage over Titan Black or TitanZ with 6gb?
Can TitanX handle extreme large scenes that is impossible with TitanZ? (Or 690 for this thread matter)
Ie. Enormous large render resolution?
Greetz,

Greetz,
out of core for now is for textures only..so You still need space for models & image buffer..but as far as I know out-put is limited anyway, so at best for now You can eat like 2GB (correct me if I'm wrong.. =)

so it depends, whether You need new X or not - & that's more or less comes down to Your workflows..- I see the point to get one, just wait a bit till prices will settle or ask someone to get this piece from USA, 'cos in europe TitanX is like 1200-1300EU..

apart from amount of vram..I guess X has nothing too much special for us - Octaners =) but.. the good point - if You turn fan 100% & leave it on full load without OC, Guess what temps You get? 47C =DDD no kidding =) https://twitter.com/Dimitry49/status/582950765414760448 (unless that was a joke from Dmitry)

Thanx for your thoughts guys.
I think I'll wait and sit on the money and go on holiday instead ;-)
, coz' with 6Gb I had no problems yet doing Archviz.
It is tempting to buy a Titan X 12gB though.
(and sell a Titan Black or save it for future changed config)

greetz,

PS
Pablo, not trying to hitch your thread, but I gues the same arguments might apply concerning 690 vs Titan X, right?
