Industrial area animation

Hi guys,

Thought I wanted to share this animation I recently did for an industrial testing facility. The purpose of the movie, was to show the infrastructure and testing capabilities of the testing facility. The whole movie has been rendered on 2 computers with each 4x GTX 780s. Everything was rendered in about 15 days. Render times per frame ranged from 2 minutes (for the outdoor shots) up to 7 minutes for some of the interiors.

Big thanks to OTOY and espc. Aoktar for making such an awesome GPU renderer.

Many thanks for sharing this fantastic work! How long did it take to model all of it?

Thanks Smicha :D Modelling, texturing and lightning was around 2 months for this project. The client supplied me with a lot of CAD material too, so I had some nice layouts to work with. I had to model most things in C4D to keep poly count low though. The outdoor scene with the complete overview took almost 4,5 GB VRAM, so I was REALLY happy that I had my new Asus 6 GB Strix cards handy for the project - They really saved me :)

Thats okay NVM ;) I think a lot of the detail in the water especially in the large views are lost due to compression on Vimeo. You're also right about the tiling - the intro was made as the last thing before rendering, so I had to cut some corners with it :) I don't think its so visibly tiled that it is a dealbreaker though :)

That was a terrific animation, really nice job. I think my favorite part is the climatic chamber -- the water spray along with the nice reflections, and "freezing" effect look awesome.
