Daz Plugin Won't Recognize Activation

Hey guys!

I recently upgraded to a new computer. I've been using an older version of Octane for quite some time. I purchased and activated OcDS 2.1 Pre Release 5th along with the newest version of Octane. In the activation manager, it's clear that the Daz Octane plugin is activated, but in the plugin itself it continues to say not activated. I also notice that despite upgrading to 2.1, the plugin continues to read as V1.2. In case it matters, I am running Windows 8 with 2 GTX 980's. I have tried deactivating the license from the website and waiting an hour to re-activate, but the plugin still reads as inactivated. Any ideas on how to get the Daz Plugin to recognize its activation?

Unless you downloaded the 2.1 OcDS prerelease from the thread title of the same name (first sticky thread at the top of this subforum), it's telling you it's version 1.2 because that was the last Otoy account released version. It is accurate as far as that is concerned.

To verify, since it seems worded a little strangely to me, and I want to ensure i understand what you mean, You had both the standalone and possibly the plugin on a previous computer, but have switched both to the new computer? The standalone also has to be activated on the same computer as the plugin, so if you did not do that, that is likely your problem, though I think it should have prompted something saying so. When you say the plugin seems activated but not recognizing it's activation, are you referring to icons or the activator itself? The icons in the Octane settings pane read activated on top and connected to liveDb below that Showing red when either is invalid, and a green check mark when they are (you also will not have access to any of the other tabs if it's not reading as activated, so if you can access the material or other tabs, it's activated, but may not be connected to the liveDb). The activator will only tell you whether or not the plugin is activated on the current machine. If you have a firewall, it may be blocking the connection needed to correctly validate when you open Daz Studio (had this problem on an older computer, was a nightmare to figure it out, since it just silently blocked it).

Most likely one of the above situations is happening, and hopefully it'll ba a quick fix. Otherwise, post screen shots of both the activator (make sure your username and password stuff is blurred, just to be safe), and the Octane Render pane (blur that same stuff), and I'll try to figure it out from what info I can gather from that.

Thank you for the reply! I have deactivated both the plugin and standalone from the previous computer. They are both also activated on the new computer. I am able to select other tabs within the plugin, the materials tab for example, but I still show both the red X and disconnection symbols on the OctaneLive tab.

When I click on the activation manager, I show that it should be activated. I have disabled any and all firewalls on my computer.

I'd really appreciate any help you can give. Thanks!

I'd recommend the following, if nothing else, just to have the latest version of stuff in general:

1: Go to the bottom of the first post in this thread: http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=44044 and download the installer (when launched, it will present the option of which version to install, 1.2, 1.5, or 2.1).

2: If you have not done so, create a duplicate Daz Studio install. (If you have the installer, simply create a new installation in the directory of your choosing, otherwise, you can just copy the Daz Studio installation you are using now to another location). This insures (if creating a new install entirely) that you have a version of Daz studio that has really nothing external in it, and at least a functional backup if something goes horribly awry at some point in the future. You can have as many copies as you want (and if your hardware supports it (and you're really a masochist for dragging down your system's responsiveness) as many instances of Daz Studio running at once as desired).

3: Run the installer you downloaded in step one. If you wish to stick with version 1.2, install that one over your currently used Daz Studio install (you can browse for additional installations, should you wish to try all three versions without installing them over each other), otherwise, choose the 2.15 prerelease. It'll automatically bring up the activator when it finishes. When it's done, (personally, I would at least in one directory install 2.15, since it has the most current version of the liveDB, and should theoretically have the least issues connecting to things) Run Daz Studio again and see what you get.

I stress the trying the version 2 prerelease only because your current version is having issues, and that one is the most current. Again, you can have as many Daz Studio installations as you feel like copying, they all use the same AppData folder, and you can drag presets around if you do fresh installations, otherwise, they will be present in all copies. Once you have version 2 connected properly, try running version 1.2 (from the new installer that you downloaded in step 1) again. Most likely, it won't connect to the liveDb, but otherwise is functionally sound (which is basically where your current install is now, but the check mark will show green instead of red for activated). If it does manage to connect to liveDb, by all means, copy whatever materials you want from it (copy as new materials, and wait for them all to download, will take a while, depending on your internet connection) and make a backup of the LiveDbTextures Folder (should be in your %\Users\[your username]\OctaneRender\ folder, in case it fails to connect later (known issue with version 1's liveDb after installing version 2) If you do this, also insure that you turn off the autoupdate cache feature on the preferences tab, or you will delete everything in this folder (hence the backup is important, because at some point, you will likely do this). Version 2 has the same materials plus a few more, but sometimes (=almost always) version 1 doesn't like to read them, and vice versa.

If you choose to bypass the version 2 install and run into the same issue, just create another Daz Studio install and install OcDS version 2 and let it activate. For some reason, this made my 1.2 function again just fine with the aforementioned lack of liveDb more often than not. Once you get 1.2 reading as activated, you can delete the Daz Studio folder with OcDS version 2 installed if you want. Didn't cause me any issues to do so.

That worked perfectly! It must've just needed a clean install with the newest version. Thank you so much!

Just bought the plug-in for DS, and had the exact same problem.

Fixed now by using the installer link here: http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=44044

This somewhat fixed my own problem with the D|S plugin; while I can now access the viewport and it can load the geomatry now, it renders the geomatry without textures and extremely blurry...

It's so blurry I can only vaguely make out that it -has- rendered the geomatry. -_- Any advice on this issue?

First... It'll look OK with just the viewport and no camera.

When you use the camera it needs focus configured, or at least disabled. There is an "autofocus" sniper target in the view port. Try that.

I do miss Lux's auto linear adjust for camera settings, but not that much. :-)
