IES lights with area light

Paul,
I am trying to set up some ies lights with an area light that has a target set to a certain mesh. I tried all projection types and cannot get it working. It all works fine in the standalone. The manual says something about spherical projection, which makes no sense for area light, doesn't it?
PS. I use the demo version.

Try to rotate IES file/texture in the settings, Octane is pretty problematic since there is no visible IES WEB/geometry so when you put it on flat plane as texture it can go -180 degrees so you get nothing visible (especialyl problem to Aim Asymetric IES files) and no idication why so you need to "guess" and rotate it in several directions untill you get it right.

Thanks Lewis,
I just managed to get it. Scaling is crucial - something about 20% of ies size gave the effect.
PS. Not to bug too much this topic - Lewis, can you tell me if I can apply two different image textures on two instances in modo so that they will be textured differently?

If you use the Normal Space for the Coordinate Space of the Spherical projection in the Distribution IES - the light will travel in the direction of the emitter geometry.
can you tell me if I can apply two different image textures on two instances in modo so that they will be textured differently?
You cannot do this. An Octane Override "instance" and an exact copy of the source Octane Override (so will reference the source Octane Override texturemaps). You can however NOT add an Octane Override to the Modo Materials - and the "on-the-fly" material conversion will should create 2 separate Octane materials, each with the different texturemaps from the source and instance Modo materials (but I haven't actually tried this!).

Paul,
Thanks for the explanation.
BTW - are you also saying that for instances I cannot move their textures independently? I mean - one texture but (randomly) moved/rotated/scaled on the same instance? Just to give impression of different look of instances.

I would need to check, but from memory an Octane Override "instance" is an exact copy of the source Octane Override, so if you need to make small changes to an instance, copy it first with the "Duplicate Octane Override", then change as required (note: that changes to the original Octane Override will not carry through to the copy).

Thanks Paul. I'll come up with more questions soon

After couple of days of playing with the demo - modo and octane rocks!
PS. The demo does not save gpus settings - every time I have to deselect unwanted gpu devices for rendering.

Yes - the demo version doesn't save info such as the GPU settings.
