Planetary atmoshpere

Hi,
has anybody managed to create a nice atmosphere for the "typical" shot of looking down on earth from orbit?
Any help appreciated.
I've tried to fiddle with one of the 2.0 demo-scenes, but the atmosphere layer doesn't look convincing in close-up.
