OR bench: GTX 980 or 780 Ti - PMC kernel

Hi!

I'll buy new videocard for work PMC kernel because EVGA GTX 580 3GB had freeze problem in some games - RMA replaced to GTX 770 2GB but I don't like 770 due to the weak GPGPU and to the VRAM "downgraded".

Is GTX 980 or 780Ti faster videocard at PMC kernel running OR benchmark?

The 780ti is faster.

COOLING makes a big difference in performance (up to 30%) so in that extent..there's no single answer to Your question. It depends on environment, to be more exact: Your case, fan speed curves, space between cards..- in one word Airflow.

Does that answer/explain Your question(s)?

Ok. :(

Very important: do NOT do overclock! I do NEVER overclock for my videocard. ;)

You do not need to overclock, Your card OC itself if it finds more headroom & it's temperature allows to do that safetely (it's part of boost2 technology).

OC is not a bad thing on it's own, if You have enough cooling capacity (Sebastian, aka Smicha, proved that 3x 780 could be faster than 4x =) so in this case it's well worth to spend some extra money..

but it's not for everyone for sure =) if You're interested feel free to read my site for more info. I'll do a simple article about this OctaneBench asap explainig why we see some difference in results & how to get the best of it if You look for an upgrade =)

Ok. My 780Ti Classy has ACX cooler. :) I use auto fan custom with 100% fan speed since ~72 ÂșC or hotter.

My real boost is 1150MHz (boost default 1085). ;)
