Hi all nice to enter in the octane world, this render engine is incredible, i work with Cinema 4D and i' m planning to do a presentation (i' m making the storyboard) the results that octane gave me already are pretty good, i need some advice on my tests, also....if you can direct me better?
(example:
-things to deactivate/activate for better experience,
-direct light render mode is recommended? If yes...what i should be using?)
i am going to buy octane for C4D plugin+standalone and i will use only the plugin for C4D for product presentation, interiors, etc.
here some images, can you gave me some advices? I' ve also ordered two gigabyte 980gtx 4gb overclocked, those images are using directlighting render mode

Also if some c4d user can tell me how to set a background in the scene that doesn' t affect the illumination would be great
Thanks guys! Really happy to be part of the family!

hi and welcome to the c4doctane family

when you will become an otoy customer, you can access to a specific plugin area where you can find a lot of examples and answers.
aoktar is the developer of the plugin and he is a very kind and helpfull person

for now i can tell you that the Direct Light kernel is intended to be use during preview but it is so fast that is also good for production, expecially for animations

If you want the best from Octane, you should switch to Path Tracing or PMC kernel

If you want a background that doesn't interact with the environment light, you can use a common C4D background object with a simple c4d shader in it

happy rendering

GTX 9x0 cannot work PMC until new 2.14 plugin demo (currently 2.06_1 but this week)...

Anyway i have the R16 but the background object with a default shader of c4d doesn' t work even if i hide the octane sky, it turns white.

demo version is based 2.06. We have recently added support of c4d shaders in background. Anyway you can use a image in background for demo version. Be sure alpha is on. Btw, background mixing is done by plugin and has not any effect on octane reflection/refractions.
