I'm considering using Octane for product renders, but I don't know if my PC can take a powerful enough GPU. Is it possible with the following specs?

- Motherboard: GA-EP35-DS3R (rev. 2.1) http://www.gigabyte.com/products/produc ... id=2743#ov

- CPU: Intel Q9550 http://ark.intel.com/products/33924/Int ... 33-MHz-FSB

- PSU: Coolermaster 460W Dual 12V

It`s about the gpu`s, so theoretically if you plug a TitanZ in there, you can start rendering.

But the whole system is pretty basic and old, so it might be worth upgrading.

Also you have to check the powerconsumption of the gpu, probably the pcie-ports need a lot of power which can cause problems

I'm unable to upgrade the PC for the time being. I'm not that tech-savvy to understand all of the requirements, so I'm hoping that someone could take a look and tell me which card is compatible?

Your PSU is 400W?
If so, and you do not want to replace your PSU you will have a problem sticking in a GPU needing i.e. 300W,
Because your system is also using power.
If you have a wattmeter you can check your system power consumption and then you have to add the max power of a GPU you want to add.
... If I were you I would get a new PSU and get one for using a TitanZ if you have three slots space on your mobo.
Greetz,

460w (edited my first post).

I see the Titan Z is 1500 Euro, which is way out of my price range. I was thinking in the 300 euro ($400) price range. Will my existing CPU or RAM not limit the GPU then?

Gtx780i is the best options if 3gb vram is enough... Probably prices are dropping becuse of the 980.
Cpu and system ram soes not limit GPU.

With a power supply that small you should think of getting a GTX970. It has 4 Gbytes of memory, very power efficient, and is in your budget.

I think 3-4 GB should be enough for product shots. Would that be the .obj file size for example?

Good to hear that the CPU and RAM are not a problem. I was under the impression that they could bottleneck the GPU.

The GTX 780ti and the GTX 970 seem to have minimum PSU requirements of 42A/600W and 28A/500W: https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/pr ... hics-cards. Has anyone tried them on a lower PSU like mine?
