Hi everyone.

I finally had the chance to finish a personal project I started over a year ago.

Image

A lot was learned through this and all it symbolizes. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did creating it.
Time to turn another page. I will render a few close ups over the week end and post them here.

Kindly,

Hugues

It's really nice I saw some older images before and this one love it the story about the kid really nice job! :D love it

Just a quick question please... each kernel you used and how many samples and time just by curiosity, it's look like a long night render hehehe I mean week later maybe?

Kernel is PMC. The picture was rendered twice. Once with the all the hair on the characters but no sand on the mandala, and then once again with the sand but not the character details. I simply cannot fit the whole scene on my card at once. The card is a modest GTX 670 with 4 GB. Altogether, it took approximately 70 hours.

The lighting was a big challege, it is comprised of a Daylight environment with a sky texture to provide the overall ambient light. 7 emitters are scattered around the scene, 3 fill lights and 4 rim lights. Finally, 5 reflectors, most of them used to bring more light onto the kid who otherwise would be completely in the shadow of the old monk.

And a couple close ups...
