Too many polygons?

Hello,

I am currently trying out the demo version octane for c4d plugin, but I came across 2 problems...

- I was preview rendering a plant, but when I copied the plant about 35 times to create a field of plants, suddenly it didnt work anymore, it said it was suffering from a render error. Is there a maximum the the amount of polygons octane can handle? I restarted my computer but everytime it was only able to render a couple of them, but not a lot of them, it would tell me to check the log every time. I am using a quadro 2000 card, could it be the case that I need to put in a better or extra graphic card?

- I also noticed that I can not use the displacement option in the octane materials. It only shows me the word texture, with the arrow next to it, when I click the arrow and select noise, nothing happens, it doesnt load it at all. Am I forgetting something?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

hi there,
you should use render instances for same objects. octane can handle about 20 million faces totally. you can reach more with render instances. also keep in you mind mesh sending and voxelling is much slower than default renderer. so we uses instancing and partial update system via octane object tag.

for displacement you should create a displacement node then place a imagetexture to input.

also your card should be much slower than a 780gtx

Thanks for the reply!

I havent found the displacement node yet, but I think I might have done something wrong with my install of the demo version, I dont have an Octane menu button on top either, I can access the live renderer, settings etc via plugins though. I suppose I will buy the plugin and hope it will work. Where should I look for the displacement node?

Thanks again

You should see a octane menu on top really. I'm not sure why don't see it. For displacement, you can check the image. It's a texture type which is in octane textures. I hope this helps.
