plugin performance vs standalone performance

Hey guys! sorry if I ask many questions but before I invest money in the renderer I would like to get some answers.

I'm currently on 1.20 plugin and standalone. I would like to know if it's normal that the performance is much better in standalone than with the plug-in for 3ds max? My viewport is kinda slowish in 3ds max while it's blazing fast in standalone. I'm running a single gtx 670 card.

It also seems that I fill up my memory very fast, what can I expect to do with 2GB of ram? is it enough for most scenes (if time isn't a huge issue). I'm not doing golf course visualization but I don't want to be limited only to small interior shots!!! :-)

Also, since there are no cloud rendering services...how do you guys manage to make videos/fly-trus, etc? do you guys all have gpu farms at home? :o

I really like this software hehe!

ok I pretty much solved the viewport/plug in question. I was using the 3ds max frame buffer instead of octane viewport like a noob lol.
